Our opinion about declawing did not change at all (nor that of Claire moreover), but we discovered a much less cruel alternative for the owners who want false cats of which claws do not damage the furniture or the carpets.
We have a friend, Allie of the blog A Tonk’s Tail, who has absolutely incredible pink claws ! We have never seen it previously, and even if she is a nail tech, Claire was not able to tell us what it was. Then we looked, and we found here, or still there.
It is synthetic capsules which are sticked directly on claws ; they are not toxic of course, and the cat can still retract its claws if it wears it. Allie wears pink, but these capsules exist in several colors.
These capsules remain reserved for inside cats because they deprive us all the same of one of our ways of defense and prehension. But even if none of us would wear a similar thing, it is necessary to admit that has at least the merit not to be permanent and irreversible, and especially that it is not cruel.
As we go outside we wear our claws down walking about and climbing up fences.

Claw caps are much better than resorting to crippling surgery, but how much better would it be if people learned how to teach cats good claw manners, provide a good set of items which cats can be trained to use to maintain their claws and scratch off claw sheaths? It would be great if everyone who cares for a cat celebrated claws.
Cat claws are a wonder of the universe!
Oh we love your pink toe nails and that is such a good idea to use those instead of declawing. That declawing is such a horrible thing to do to a cat. Allie is so lucky to have you as a Mom. Hope all of you have a great day.
Those claw clasps are a good solution…though we don’t think we would want to wear them.
guys…sad lee…we had no claws when we wuz adopted at de shelter…we haz hurd bout claw caps tho…we R just knot sure how they stay… ON
We did a review/giveaway for them last year. I recommend them only as a last option for someone considering declawing. Anything is better than that!
I think if The Staff tried to put those things on me, there would be big trouble! MOL But I agree declawing is horribly cruel!
We don’t think we would want to wear those claw claps over here but our Mama clips our nails and provides us with lots of scratching posts so we aren’t destructive. Declawing is cruel…that goes without saying!

Thanks for promoting this! We use Allie as an example of an alternative to declawing. Sadly, in the U.S., far too many people (and veterinarians!!!!) default to declawing a cat. It’s cruel amputation and should be outlawed!
But until the U.S. catches up with the rest of the world on this issue, we use claw caps as a last resort deterrant to persuade adopters to consider other, more humane options.
Most people do not know this, but Allie doesn’t really wear claw caps any more. Most of our photos are from previous years, when we put them on her to prevent her from terrorizing our older cat, Ryker. (Furniture? Ha, we could care less about that!)
Still, we use the photos of her in the claw caps to promote humane alternatives to declawing. We would do ANYthing to prevent that cruelty!!
We think Allie and her caps send a very positive message, especially to those that don’t really know how cruel and painful declawing is. Just the fact that they are there, opens up the discussion which is a great thing. We are surprised how many people don’t even realize what happens when a cat is declawed. It’s not that they are cruel…they are just uninformed. Thank you Lisa & Allie!

We agree that Allie’s pink claws are very pretty.
Mom just goes with nail trimming and we squirm to make it difficult for her 😉
Fun and games! heehee
