PIXIE : Zorro, what are you doing in our kitchen garden?
ZORRO : I’m pooping…
PIXIE : ! ? !
ZORRO : I celebrate Earth Day (as every morning, moreover) : you know, recycling, composting, organic eating, all these things… It’s as well for it that I hunt birds and mice : no packaging, no waste !
Some humans over-exploit and manhandle our planet, and other, more and more numerous, try at best to protect it.
What already does Claire for the Earth ?
- she buys local
- she limits packagings
- she eats seasonal produce
- she eats few red meat (0-1x a week), poultry (3-5x a week), and few fish (0-1x a week)
- she sorts out her waste and recycles all which is recyclable : glass, PET, paper, cardboard, iron, aluminum, wood…
- she composts plant waste
- she uses bags, bottles, … reusable several times
- she replaced the former bulbs by LED or economic bulbs
- she has devices of energy category A+ or A++ and she replaces them after 10 years
- she switches off completely the unused electric devices
- she washes the laundry in the most low-temperature possible
- she warms the rooms up to 19 C only
- she uses the staircase if there are only two or three floors to go up
- she does not buy new clothes every month
- she closes the faucet while she soaps or while she brushes his teeth
If everybody lived like Claire, would be needed all the same 2,2 planets to live. She could make an effort in the field of transport, by going from time to time to work by bike (16 km) instead of taking the car ; it would also be necessary to think of making an outside insulation of the house (1955) to improve its energy efficiency (but that’s expensive !).
Big actions are spectacular, but we are convinced that small individual actions are much more effective on the long term. You will find several ideas on WWF website or on earthday.org.
Test your ecological footprint too, and share one of your eco-friendly gesture with us in comments !
Very good of you to use the outdoor commode Zorro 😉 heehee
Our mum does most of the things your mum does too 😉
It is good to be kind to our planet.
Our Mum is a big recycler – paper, plastic, cans, you name it she saves it and our dustmen collect all these items on a fortnightly basis and only things like left over cat food and some other odds and ends go into the other bin and collected in recycled bags.
Thats a good list. We miss a few things here, but not many (we must have meat, and TBT demands his few ounces of it once a day, fer example). But the trash guys would starve on what he sends out as pick-up once a month.
The mom recycles everything she can, but she needs to be better about other things to protect our planet. Happy Earth Day!
Ya’ll be lookin’ gawjus. Dat Claire sure does a lot fur da greenery of da planet.
Luv ya’
Dezi
My human does some, but not all these things – she has much more work to do!
I miss my poop thingie in the garden, but I promise you, when the trees Granny planted and the borders are finished, so that I can hide myself again between all the goodies, I start recycling again, Zorro and Pixie. On the other hand, I have litter that is pure natural, so good for recycling and my paws too 🙂 Pawkisses for a Happy Earth Day 🙂 <3
Claire does a lot of the same things that our mom does! She prefers to buy local whenever possible – she says it also tastes better and has more nutrients, as it hasn’t travelled as far. Although she does like bananas, and they definitely don’t grow in Canada!
Claire does a lot for the Earth! You’re lucky to have such a good human.
v\We love our planet and sure hope everyone takes good care of it!
Looks like Claire is doing her part- and you are too. Happy Earth Day!
Happy Earth Day!
My Master says: “Your Mistress is very good for the Planet, Zorro and Pixie! I totally agree with her.
As far as cycling to work is concerned, 16K (10M) is quite a big distance, according to transport specialists. They consider that if people want to cycle to work on a usual basis (and children cycle to school) it shouldn’t be more than a 20-minute ride, provided it is flat. If the ride is longer, the bike will be abandoned when it is wet, when it cold or windy – except if one has appropriate equipment.
As far as recycling is concerned, it must be organised in a convenient way FOR THE CITIZENS, not for the COUNCIL. In France most councillors believe that since they have been elected they have the competence, they know what is good. The result? People don’t concur with the schemes and France has one of the poorest recycling performance in Europe!”
Hi Zorro, Hello Pixie
Dad is really good about taking all paper and other products and separating them to be recycled. Our area has a one of the highest recycle rates in our State of Pennsylvania USA. We are happy about this

Timmy, the Dad and Family
Great ! Purrs
PS
We love your backyard play area that is safe. Dad has promised us one this year as soon as he finishes our new living area downstairs. (Dad and his sister shared a home and now it is just him)

Zorro… LOL! … hope the celebration gift has the shape of a purrfect “Z” :o) we try to reuse a lot of stuff.. and my momma always gets angry when she sees how much packaging is wastesd for simple things like razor blades by Gilette :o(
We agree : the size of packaging is often disappointing ! Purrs
Your Mom’s list is impressive and important…………..and my Mom says every little thing that she does and that WE do adds up; imagine if everyone did just one or two SMALL things – what a beautiful world we could KEEP.
Love, Sammy
Wow!! Your Claire does A LOT!!!!!! my mom does some but not as much as Claire! My Mom better get MUCH better! Love, Cody
Yup, it’s important to be kind to the planet, for sure. We only have the one, you see. Purrs, Seville.
