Cats are pets as popular as dogs, nevertheless we benefit from much fewer veterinary care than them. Why ?
- Because we have the reputation to be self-sufficient in many domains.
- Because we are the world champions to hide our signs of disease and our wounds.
- Because indoor cats risk nothing.
- Because it is difficult to let us go into our PTU.
Those are myths ! Your cat deserves to remain healthy as much as you do : prevention is better than cure.
4 good reasons for bringing your cat to the veterinarian
(we cannot believe that we have just written this title…)
To carry out a general health control
The veterinarian is going to examine your cat from the nose to the tail. He will check :
– the weight: thinness, obesity, variation with regard to the previous visit, …
– the eyes : flow, state of the retina, reflex of the pupil, …
– the ears : wax excess, mites, …
– the teeth : tartar, gums inflammation, abscess, …
– the skin : alopecia, cyst, state of the fur, abscess, parasite’s presence, …
A health problem detected in an early stage is easier (and cheaper !) to heal.
To renew vaccines
Most of the vaccines must be renewed every year to keep their efficiency.
To verify the functioning of the microchip
It is very rare, but it may happen that the identification chip has a failure, or it may happen that it moves.
To cure your cat
It is rather obvious…
How often should you take your cat to the vet ?
Without specific problem, one or two annual visits are recommended. We go there only once : you would not get too much of good things, isn’t it…
Do you go regularly to the veterinarian ?
Vet visits are really important! My human is pretty good about making sure we are all checked out.
We go regularly to the vet.Often twice a year.

YES I do go to my vet every four months for my thyroid check……….I’m sure I wouldn’t be almost 17 without the good care of my vet AND my humans!!
Hugs, Sammy
yep, toooo much good things bring belly aches LOL I hope all purr-friends got or will get good news from their vet :o)
Mum goes to our vets if she is running low on something when she doesn’t take us but normally we only go once a year in December to be stabbed.
Yep, mum takes me once a year. Thankfully I have only had to go to the vet once for something when I wasn’t feeling good. Fixed me right up and been good since.
Yep my Mom takes me to the Vet a few times a year!! I am lucky, I missed my appointment last week (or, I should say, I got OUT of it! MOL!) Love, Cody
My Momma drags me in at least every year. The past couple years, I’ve had to make some extra visits too (I had a tumor and also dental problems). She gets nervous the longer it gets from my annual exam because she’s a worrier and is sure something terrible is going to happen to me. I know she loves me … but I don’t love the vet!
Vet visits are so important and we don’t mind the Vet at all. We are not fans of the car ride though!
Excellent post! Proper vet care is so important.Cats are so good at hiding sickness until it is too late so it is smart to bring them for exams.
I used to go once a year, but now it is more like every 3 months for a check up because of my health issues.
Paws up! We are transitioning to a new veterinarian as our annual appointments come due, so we the head peep is being very careful to be sure we make it in on schedule for our wellness visits.
We agree, vet appointments are important, especially as cats age 🙂
the critters in the cottage xo
I hate the spring cos I go to the vet every April whether I need it or not. Heh heh.
Rosie and Moo Shu go once a year as she young and healthy. Elsie, our older girl, sees the vet regularly as she is older and has some health issues. We are lucky to have a vet that comes to the house to check on Elsie
We go to the vet regularly. Our mom and dad are pretty good that way. 🙂
I take the animals to the vet frequently, but I’ve never asked him to check if their microchip is working. I must remember to do that.
This is so important! I take my cat 1 time a year for general health control and vaccines. Unfortunately he hates going to the vet and always makes a scene, but we take him anyway. It’s for his own good even if he does realize that.
Pawsum posty. We agree 100% dat kitty’s health is of utmost purrtance.
Luv ya’

Cats are great at hiding when they don’t feel well. It is so important for them to go at least once a year. ♥
We get regular vet visits even when we don’t think we need them. The Big Thing never lets our protests stop him.
BTW, It is our 10th Blogiversary today. We have been looking forward to that fer a long time and hope you will come and visit!
Oh yes, gettin’ us in our carriers to visit the doctor can be difficult. I, OF COURSE, am always very good ’bout this but some of my fur-sibs? MOUSES!
Purrs,
Seville
Dad takes us for our yearly check ups and more if he is suspicious of our behavior. I was taken the other week for a tiny cough. Dad was thinking all bad things but I have no asthma, heart problems, or anything it seems from them stealing my good blood and taking that funny see-through picture.
