How old is your cat ?

This post is also available in : French German Italian

Thank you very much for your messages on the occasion of my birthday ! I was really happy ! It’s a little bit hard for me to recover from the pawty, by the way…

My friend Easy told me that I was now old enough to drive a car and to drink beers : but how to convert cat years in human years ?

Some people say that it should be multiplied by 7, others say by 8… That’s not quite that.

How old is your cat ?

An old cat will enjoy some kind gestures and some arrangements which will facilitate his life : we tell you about it here.

I have thus just turned 28 ! And you, how old would you be if you were a human ?

Hmmm … this is interesting. For years, 7 was considered “senior,” thus the recommendation to start yearly blood screens at that age. But cats are living longer than they used to … so it makes sense to adjust the categories.

Wow, that must have been some party that a youngster like you is having a hard time recovering.
I will be 13 this year (near as my human can guess). That puts me squarely into my senior years. I still have a lot of energy and can zoom around the house quickly and climb my perches, but I do notice a few stiff joints sometimes. Mom is very careful about making sure I don’t have to jump too far down from anywhere because that’s when I tend to “feel” my age.

I will be 84 next month. My mum used to have 2 sisters who were 23 and 24 in cat years when they died, so that would have made them 108 and 112.

At least I’m not in the “really old” category yet. TW’s Syssy got preggers when she was about 5 months old. As soon as the kittens were weaned and given away, she was spayed.

I blogged about an updated age chart recently. You’ve taken the numbers from the International Cat Care chart but left out important details. I found a more detailed U.S. chart from 2011 but the U.S. and the Europeans can’t come to an agreement *sigh* Happy birthday to Pixie! xo

Indeed. As we couldn’t find more recent numbers that everyone agreed, we prefered to stick to those numbers. You can find them on many “serious” French and German websites as well. Purrs
