How to convert a outdoor cat to an indoors life

This post is also available in : French German Italian

Zorro arbreWhen Claire and Momo got back me after four days of disappearance, they put under house arrest me: no way that I put back a whisker outside as long as there would be no fence in the garden !

To avoid that I become mad and that I defuse everything To make my stay the most pleasant possible, my domesticated woman had in mind a small sentence fired by an article that had been shared by Stunning Keisha on Facebook : “the secret to encouraging the neighborhood globetrotters to choose indoors over the outdoors is to make the inside more interesting and appealing than the outside ».

Zorro116They made room in the lounge to be able to install a new cat tree which goes up to the ceiling (they kept the one who is old and quite used all the same because it’s ugly but still functional). There is another cat tree in the small room, less high, which was already there.

I also received a small circuit of game ; Claire goes to see if I play with, and if that pleases me, she will buy other pieces to enlarge it. Oh, and I have just discovered that Claire hid treats for me in various places : I adore that kind of surprise !

I benefit from at least three sessions of game per day: what I prefer, it’s to pursue a simple thread !

Zorro120Finally, I have the right to go on or to the bed during the night as I have clean paws.

Of course, I demand little to go outside, but altogether, I adapt myself rather well to my new life.

I am all the same very impatient to see the enclosure of the garden ended to be able to take advantage of it a little again !

That is a great cat tree. I am glad you are adapting to being inside. Even though I can go into the garden whenever I wish, I cannot go further because there is a very high hedge and fence all round. I am only allowed in the fields when my mum is with me.

Zorro, we are so glad that you are adjusting to life inside. Some cats do just fine being inside especially if they have been inside some of the time. The cats that have a hard time are the ones that grow up outside and never get to see the inside of a house. And Claire sure has made things so nice for you inside there with that wonderful cat tree and toy. You all have a great week end.

Heh, Zorro, you are getting better indoor “enrichment” than I am over here, and I’ve ALWAYS been indoors-only! I need to have a talk with my human.

Zorro, all of us, especially Calista Jo, are happy that your human is working hard to keep you happy in the house. We would all be so sad if you escaped and disappeared again. That cat tree looks super pawsome. Glad you are being a good boy. XO, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

I’m so glad you kept the old cat tree. It’s full of his happy pheromone scent markings. The decision pet parents make their cats indoor/outdoor or indoor only is a personal one. I believe safe outdoors areas and being in touch with nature is the most natural. Have you considered leash walking?

Dad thought back to his work transitioning Angel Inky who, luckily, was 18 and not full of too much argument. Angel Coco was ready to stay in as he had come back from a 6 week adventure that would have ended him if not for a well meaning cat lover who found him lost and injured. We are all insiders but Dad is thinking of an enclosure.
