World Cat Day

This post is also available in : French German Italian

Today, it’s World Cat Day ; to celebrate this special day, we chose to give a shout out to an amazing project : “I Know Where Your Cat Lives”.

Here is how they appear on their site :

“I Know Where Your Cat Lives is a data experiment that visualizes a sample of 1 million public pics of cats on a world map, locating them by the latitude and longitude coordinates embedded in their metadata. The cats were accessed via publicly available APIs provided by popular photo sharing websites. The photos were then run through various clustering algorithms using a supercomputer at Florida State University in order to represent the enormity of the data source.

(…) This website doesn’t visualize all of the cats on the net, only the ones that allow you to track where their owners have been.”

Do you think that you’re going to be there ?

We found one picture of Angel Loupi that was taken by a friend. Mum doesn’t allow her camera and iPhoto to geotag the photos, so we didn’t find anything else about us. Purrs

Fascinating! I love the idea, if it helped anyone find a cat wouldn’t that be interesting. It’s the same as google maps. I was really mad they didn’t ask us before they photographed our houses thank goodness they didn’t photograph the cat beds (many we like our sleep!!)
