Today is Respect Your Cat Day. We asked our humans, what this meant for them.
Respect your cat is….
- treating him like a cat
- taking good care of his health
- meeting his specific needs
- giving him good quality food
- providing him a clean litter box (several in multicat houses), enough toys, and enough room to live
- catifying your house
- taking time to play with him
- petting him every day
- trying to think like a cat to make him happy
Do you have other ideas ? What are your top 3 items on that list ?
Our friends from Pawesome Cats asked the same question to several people, click here to read the answers !
I asked mom and she said: 1. treating us like cats (I disagree – she occasionally tries to dress us up); 2. playing with us everyday (again I must disagree – when I want to play fetch at midnight she refuses!); and 3. petting us everyday – I definitely agree – she actually loves on us too much!!!
I let Binga do the Respect Your Cat Day post on my blog… and I’m a little embarrassed.
Well, it’s a little bit direct, but what is important is the result, right ? Purrs
We like: treating him like a cat, meeting his specific needs and
trying to think like a cat to make him happy.
They are all good points though 🙂

Your list is so full of GOOD suggestions, we can’t pick just THREE!!!!!
Hugs, Sammy
what a pawsome list! I hope all will respect their cats and all will be grateful to have a feline friend… without cats our world would be a CATastrophe…

We did not know that today was respect your cat day! We are always treated with respect, so we are very fortunate. Our mom and dad take great care of us all the time.
I think all those things are important. I try to do them, but I guess treating them like cats would mean no hats or costumes.
But your furkids really don’t seem to mind them!
All of those are super good!
The Florida Furkids
That was a great list and we feel pretty respected here!
that is a pawsome list! we can’t even pick a top three, we like them all. we can tell you kitties are well respected 🙂 purrs,
pip, smidgen, minnie, hollie, sharpie, ditto
I like that the first item on your list is “treating him like a cat”. I don’t like it when people consistently treat their pets like little humans or playthings.. A little fun is fine, but animals are happiest when they are treated respectfully, as animals.
All the other items on your list are excellent too.
I agree with all those. My mum respects me except when she shoves pills down my throat every morning and night.
letting a cat be a cat, and not expecting it to be a stuffed animal 🙂
We totally missed Respect Your Cat Day, which we consider disrespectful of Jan and our canine siblings.
That’s a great list! Thankfully our parents do all of those things! 🙂 Hope you all had a wonderful Easter, if you celebrate it! XOXO
Yous knows, Mes gets treated like that EVERY day!
Mes a furry lucky cat!
Kisses
Nellie
Well, WE are treated like CATS and it doesnt get more special that THAT here!
Uhm, top THREE? We’ll take them ALL pleez!
Those are very respectable tips, Zorro and Pixie. Granny would like to add just two more, act and react like a cat…Grandpaw says she is good in that 😀 Pawkisses for a respectable day 🙂 <3 <3
Great list! Happy belated Easter cuties 🙂
the critters in the cottage xo
I asked Calico Lucy what I could do to respect her and on her list were:
1. Feed me exactly at 5 pm… none of this 5:05 or 5:10 nonsense
2. Let me knead your bare skin as often and as vigorously as I choose and
3. Don’t get all het up when I am on top of the gecko tank, or by your china tea kettle typewriter — if you don’t want it broken, don’t make it accessible!
I loved your list!
