Why do cats eat grass ?

Do you believe that we play cows ? That we became vegetarian ?

Not at all !

We eat grass to evacuate the hairs which we swallow by licking us. Indeed, the hairs we swallow by having a wash form balls ; if these remain stuck in our bowel, they can cause a dangerous intestinal obstruction.

The blades of grass we eat get involved in hairs in our stomach and form balls which we can elegantly vomit in a carefully chosen place as most great pleasure of our human. The grass also favors our intestinal transit, what can allow the balls of fluff to take out again by… uh… our other end. If your cat is very constipated or did not do his little poo daily, go at once to the veterinarian !

To chew grass also allows us to absorb certain nourishing elements which are necessary for us, as the folic acid for example, which plays an important role in our production of haemoglobin.

You can also cultivate grass for your cat if he has no access outside, he will be quite satisfied and will less be tried to chew on your house plants !

Felix Sensations Crunchy Crumbles

A few days ago, we received Sensations Crunchy Crumbles pouches (menus meat and menus fish) on behalf of our friend Felix. It’s not our usual food, we were thus curious to enjoy it. And as Zorro loves kibble, he was especially interested in Crunchy Crumbles !

Here is the composition of the menus (click to enlarge) and crumbles : the menus contain 80 % of water, some meat and animal by-products (or some fish), extracts of vegetable proteins, mineral substances, sugars, and various additives ; crumbles contain cereal, meat and animal by-products, oil and fats, extracts of vegetable proteins, mineral substances, sugars, yeasts, additives, and colouring agents.

We can find Felix products in most of the supermarkets. The Sensations Crunchy Crumbles menus appears in packagings of 10 pouches of 100 grams each; in the packaging, there is also a bag of crumbles to be strewed on the food (that’s what is funny !).
Zorro found great to have a note of crunchy in the wet food ; we preferred the menus at the fish (it is not a surprise). As we have nice neighbors, we also made a menu meat at Luna and Enzo taste: « It’s too good, I swallow whole !” they told us !
Felix doesn’t need humans to serve him when he’s hungry : he has an extraordinary machine which prepares him his meals.

Claire’s opinion : Felix is one of entry point brands of Purina food ; it’s necessary to count 2 to 3 pouches a day for a grown-up cat : Zorro, 4.6 kg, would rather need 3 pouches. Felix is a correct product for low budgets, and cats like it very much.

How to feed an old cat

With the age, the physical activity of the cat decreases, and its energy needs also. An adapted food will contribute to maintain him healthy. Here are the advice of our angel Isis :

Choose delicious and easily digestible food.
Split the meals.
Unless otherwise specified by the veterinarian, favor a top-quality wet food.
Watch a contribution being enough in vitamins : C and E for the immune system and against cellular ageing, D for skin and fur(so that your cat can synthesize the vitamin D, expose him a small moment to the sun if he doesn’t go there alone), and the rest of the alphabet for his general well-being.
Watch a regular contribution of glucosamin and chondroitin to protect his articulations and his musculoskeletal system (by means of a food complement with extract of green mussel for example).
Always put some fresh water in arrangement, and watch the consumption of your old cat. Consult the veterinarian if your cat drinks more than 100 ml / kg / day, it can be due to a problem of loins.
