Heat emergency : how to protect your cat ?

For more than a week, we have scorching temperatures. It is horribly warm and wet, our humans cannot sleep, and we all work in slow motion.

How to protect your cat during a heat emergency ?

Here is a brief reminder :

Make sure that he has access to a cool, ventilated, and shaded place.
Make sure that he drinks enough. Put some cool water at disposal in several places.
If needed, refresh him by petting him with a wet towel, or make him play with some water if he likes it.
Your cat will reduce his usual activity instinctively, it’s normal.

Hectic weeks

It’s an usual month of June : our human doesn’t know which way to turn anymore, our blog is neglected, and we don’t even speak of visiting our pals …

There is a cortege and a School Day to be prepared, it’s the end of the school year, and in addition to this, our human is working full-time since one week (till the end of the month) because her colleague is sick. She takes care of the garden and the kitchen garden after a fashion : water, weed, collect…

Claire tells us that she’s building a flying saucer in her classroom, and that her pupils are all Martians : her mental health really worries us !

All that we can propose you today it is a garden tour : it’s already better that nothing. For comments on your blogs on the other hand, you’ll need to be patient, because our capacity to visit you is going to remain very random until June 30th !

3 tips to help your cat spend a good summer

Drink

Provide your cat some cool water throughout the day. The ideal is a water fountain, but several bowls of water at various places in the house (and in the garden) suit perfectly. The water should be renewed several times during the day. You can add an ice cube in the bowl (only one !) to keep the water cool longer.

Stay cool

For your own comfort and that of your cat, maintain the inside of your house as fresh as possible : lower the blinds or close the shutters, equip yourselves with a ventilator if necessary, or switch on the air conditioning if you are lucky enough to have of one (not too cold!). Be sure that your cat has easily access to a cool place during day. You can also pet your cat with a wet dish mop, and let him play with water as in the video below :
