Santa Kitty Toy Hop

We played Santa Kitty for the Haut-Léman shelter. This shelter welcomes cats, dogs, rodents, hens, and even sometimes other small animals. The association survives thanks to adoptions, to pensions, to contributions, to donations, and to legacies. Claire helped us to bring toys and food (cats and dogs). What a pleasure to see the enjoyment which a simple gesture can bring ! Claire said hello from us to our friends together with Martine and Ludovic. They all reserved her a warm welcome ; Django even washed her the face, and Nanouk cleaned completely her right ear while she took photos of Galak ! But the most beautiful present which we could make them, it would be to offer them a loving forever home before Christmas !

Why cats are not good Christmas presents

Look at Zorro and me : we have responsible humans, who are very attentive to our needs and to our well-being ; they play every day with us, let us eat food of good quality, we have a well kept litter box, we have some room to live and amuse us, and a veterinarian watches regularly our health. Claire and Momo adore us, and we also like very much them. We’re happy cats.

Cats are adorable companions, but we’re not “objects” which we offer in present. Why ?

First of all, does the person to whom you offer a cat really want it ? Or do you assume the fact that this small cat is going to land in the shelter with more or less brief term ?

Then, will she know how to take care of him correctly during long years ? A cat likes having clean bowls to eat healthy food ; he appreciates a litter box emptied several times a day of his excrement ; he needs to play with his toys, but also with his human, and to be regularly petted.

Has she the financial means to take care of an animal ? A cat is a living being who has specific needs, and it has a cost. It’s necessary to count the expenses of food, veterinarian, litter, diverse accessories and toys during several years, what represents a not insignificant amount every month.

Are you sure that she’s not allergic ? It would be the height all the same that a badly chosen present makes your friend or his child have to go to the hospital, isn’t it ?

Does she have the right to hold an animal in her apartment ? Certain owners don’t authorize animals in apartments, and we’re not sure that a human moves for a kitten-present for which he didn’t ask …

Finally, the adoption of a human by a cat, it’s the story of a meeting, a mutual choice, for the common path which should last for long years…

Then please, don’t offer an animal as present : rather let him adopt the person who will be really ready to welcome him.

Be The Change, Blog The Change

Today, we need you. This article is specially written for our friends of Bex, at about ten kilometers from our home.

In the evening of Friday, October 10th, criminals voluntarily set fire to the main building of the kennel of Bex (source : Police Vaudoise and newspaper Le Matin). Fortunately, horses, cats, and dogs were able to be evacuated in time by the fire brigades which quickly arrived on the scene, and there is no wounded person. Only one dog was not able to be saved and died suffocated : already very shy, he most probably hid and was not able to be found in time.

The building is ravaged ; a container was already supplied to the staff of the kennel to install a provisional reception there. The shelters of animals and the reserves of food were not affected ; the kennel has an accommodation facilities of 80 dogs and 40 cats, but fortunately the cat boarding (which was in the building which burned) was luckily empty these days.

Winter is coming and our friends need, by order of priority :

Money : what remains of the building must be unsettled and freed to be able to reconstruct everything, before the arrival of winter if possible
