Why to have an insurance for your cat ?

Pixie50 On June 16th of this year, I’ve been three months old. It is the age from which I can be insured at Animalia.

Why an insurance for me ? Because I am not unfortunately shielded from a disease or from an accident, as everybody, and because the veterinary care can be very expensive. For example, the accident of our poor angel Loupi cost 700 CHF. What would it take place if something happened to me and if Claire and Momo did not have the means to pay my treatment ?

With Animalia, your bean can choose an insurance deductible of 100, 300 or 500 CHF. In case of misfortune, Animalia takes care of 80 % of expenses (after deduction of the insurance deductible) up to 5000 CHF a year, or for an unlimited sum if your bean chooses this option. And they take care of all which follows :

  • my examinations and my care (by a veterinarian)
  • my medicine and other means prescribed to the veterinary office
  • all my vaccines (50 CHF a year, off insurance deductible)
  • my sessions of homoeopathy, acupuncture, osteopathy or still physiotherapy (maximum 12 sessions to 50 CHF a year)
  • the transport as a matter of urgency up to a health center in case of misfortune (100 CHF a year)
  • the publication of an announcement if I run away (50 CHF a year)
  • my expenses of pension (15 CHF a day during maximum 10 days) if my bean is hospitalized and there is nobody else in the house to take care of me
  • emergencies all around the world
  • my night stays to the veterinary office (20 CHF a night, maximum 200 CHF a year)

Of course, it is necessary to warn them at once if we are sick or we have an accident, and to send them invoices when we paid so that they pay off us, but it’s worth it for 7.35 CHF a month, isn’t it ?

And if I don’t need all these services during two years (except vaccination), I have a bonus !

1 CHF = 1.1 $ = 0.65 £ = 0.82 €

I’m free !

Since Sunday, I can go out again, I am free !

Or almost: Gérard of Sécurité Chats made me a great enclosure at the request of Claire and Momo. He came at first one day to take all the measures, then came back on last Thursday with all the material and a heap of tools.

Gérard planted at first pickets about 50 cms in the ground, then put on long amounts above. He has also screwed some against the house and on the terrace. He placed the sliding door in the deliberate place, then stretched out the net on all the structure by adjusting the horizontal bars to stiffen this one, and by means of a cord to be stretched out on the net. The net is wrapped with every amount. Gérard also strengthened the angles of the enclosure. To finish, he fixed the bottom of the net to the ground by planting fasteners of tent with moved closer intervals. Momo then gave him a heap of papers of all colors, and he left.

enclos8Claire and Momo minutely inspected my park : it is really good work, and the fence is almost invisible when we pass in front of our home.

As my domesticated want to accustom me to go out in the daytime and to stay inside at night, I had to wait until yesterday (Sunday) to be finally able to take advantage of my space of freedom.

What a happiness of feeling the grass under my paws again !

10 things to do if your cat disappears

annonce Zorro When I disappeared, Claire and Momo put four days finding me. It is thanks to a hen that they succeeded : the neighbor looked for her hen, saw from afar me, and told it to Claire and Momo. After good moment spent to have a walk in the village, they finally perceived me. Momo moved forward little to me then let me approach. He offered me my favorite treats, and was able to take me in arms to return home (OK, he held me in his arms but one of the hands held so slowly but firmly the skin of my neck to prevent me from floundering and from leaving).

I believe that they found me because they were lucky, because all the blogosphere and the groups of crazy cat people hummed and prayed so that it happens, but also because they knew how to put into practice the following points :

  1. Anticipate : any cat, even an indoor cat, may run away and disappear once or the other time ! Do not wait that the cat disappears to prepare a simple, clear and readable poster in case. Choose a rather big and readable writing, and one or two recent photos. The poster will contain the name of the cat, the date of its disappearance, the portable phone number, the name and the address of the owner of the cat
  2. Anticipate: microchip the cat
  3. In case of disappearance, do not wait to let know that you lost your cat
  4. Warn the neighbors (houses, businesses) by asking them to check their cellar, their garage, and their garden shed
  5. Put posters in the district : choose very visible places (bus stop, mailbox, bancomat, newspapers box)
  6. Put posters in schools surroundings and shopping malls
  7. Warn the shelters of the area and the SPCA
  8. Use web sites planned for that purpose to launch an “lost cat » alert : they are in connection with shelters
  9. Warn the veterinarians of the area and the department of garbage dump
  10. Lead searches on foot around the house, by walking slowly and by calling the cat at regular intervals in the most quiet moments of the day; stop to listen to and look.
